Working around engineers constantly, it’s easy to forget about the power of persuasion. Engineers rely on being right all too often. The belief that the logical truth will always conquer might hold for technical endeavors but it certainly falls apart quickly in the face of qualitative analysis.

Working around designers gives a vastly different bias in practice. The power of persuasion is what can actually make a certain design “more correct” than another. This turns the typical engineering mentality upside-down and can many times lead to misunderstanding.

Neither approach deserves more merit than the other but it does make an argument for paying attention next time a debate occurs. Whether it is to persuade or prove, make sure you know which your opponent is using!

Congrats

If you really mean it, don’t shorten it.
